Newpaper Blackout Poems

Now this is cool! I heard about this on Robert Lee Brewer’s blog Poetic Asides. It seems that he heard about it from someone who heard about it from someone that heard about it on NPR. So it goes in today’s world – news travels fast. Poet Austin Kleon blacks out words in the newspaper to create fabulous poems. http://www.austinkleon.com/category/newspaper-blackout-poems/

This idea puts a whole new spin on a quote that we discussed recently in my creative writing class:

It is difficult to get the news from poems, yet men die miserably every day for lack of what is found there. –William Carlos Williams

So take a look through your local papers and if you come up with some gems please share them here in the comments!
